I took this idea of the Top Five posts of the month from another blog I follow – I think it is a very interesting concept because it lets you reflect on what you wrote. I chose the ones about writing in preschool, monster blocks, teaching sites, sticker reward system, and pumpkin investigation. It was nice to look back at October posts and remember some tips as well as engaging articles/activities I had found.
I had some time to get a few posters ready that I want to use during the Fall unit, and I really felt productive! I made one with a song about leaves falling as well as one about investigating pumpkins – they were color-coded for Fall and had drawings of leaves or pumpkins. I am quite proud to teach the students the song and lead the discussion about our pumpkins 🙂 They will be on the wall and my webpage for the whole unit!
I have been searching for crafts and small groups to do with the Fall unit – as usual, there are are so many options! I saved button trees, fall painting with corks, leaf pressing, matching numbers on pumpkins, and a few songs 🙂 I look forward to trying some of these out, and hopefully getting through more of them than the pets unit (I only did a few due to the busy week of moving around other rooms and helping).
This is a great idea for the Fall unit! We already have pumpkins in our classes, so it won’t be difficult to take a closer look at one and see what the children come up with. I love involving science and discovery into the lessons and extra activities. We could also do this with other things that are distinctly Fall.
This concept seems really fun! It might be something I try out on the weekend for a bit – maybe I can bring it in near he end of the month for the party at school. The students would definitely enjoy it and get to see some science in action.
