Wow I can’t believe Christmas has come and gone, and my vacation is almost done – there will still be some evenings of family fun because my sister is here until mid-week and my boyfriend for New Year’s, but it won’t be the same as being able to relax and enjoy a leisurely day playing games and enjoying each other’s company.
I posted 2 today because I got caught up in Christmas and Day after Christmas antics 🙂
350 posts – woo!
I love the way my family does Christmas 🙂 it may seem over the top to some people but it is ours and it is perfect! Excited to start the festivities so it actually hits me that IT IS CHRISTMAS!
This weekend has started Christmas festivities for my family and boyfriend – we decorated the tree with lots of holiday music on, and then went to the zoo lights which was very relaxing and fun! Today we are seeing A Christmas Story on the big screen in one of the local theaters. I like starting a couple weeks before Christmas because it gets me in the mindset of celebrating 🙂
Sorry I missed doing a post on Saturday!
This year I didn’t have Thanksgiving with my own family, and I was very delighted by the open arms of my boyfriends families for dinner and dessert. I loved that I didn’t feel out of place, and joined right in with games and conversations!
This week, the students worked on the Popsicle stick house but the other activity is going to be more about family – for next week, I want the guardians to bring pictures of their families and the children will make a family tree. It will be very useful for them to figure out how it works, and see everyone’s families. These will probably stay up for quite some time in the classroom because they are very relevant to the backgrounds of the students in our class!
This week, our unit is homes and family – I have found a few crafts that I think the children will enjoy. The one I posted below is fun because they actually get to create a home out of popsicle sticks and draw a picture of their family. This is a great keepsake for the parents and guardians as well!
Today, I am in Eugene for a layover at friend’s house and it really hit me that this town is now just in passing. I spent five years of my life here for school, but now I don’t have a reason to be here. I will be visiting my boyfriend and friends occasionally – it was very odd driving past the school and in the town because it is no longer my home. I have a new place to make my mark at work and with friends. Time flies too fast!
Now that it is coming to the end of the term, I am able to relax more when I am at home – the teachers are giving us in-class time to work on final assignments for this week. I have one big paper that I’ll start working on this weekend BUT I am mainly catching up on shows and starting a new mystery book 🙂 It’s very nice to have this time before I start work in August! It will be tougher to have free time, alone or with family and friends.
Due to my decision for the rest of this term, I have been able to relax and spend time with my sister and parents. It is really what the doctor ordered 🙂 It can be important to just get away and clear your head sometimes. I am enjoying my relaxation and need to remember that summer classes won’t be too difficult, to make sure I don’t stress myself out again. Fall term should be beneficial because I can pretend it is more my classroom since I’ll be teaching almost the whole term. Can’t believe I still have about a month, super excited!
I am visiting my parents this weekend, so I thought I would write about the importance of using the ones you care about as de-stressers. Something about being at home just puts my mind at ease – it may be the fact that I have to drive a bit to get there so it feels like a mini vacation, or that I try to complete my work before the trip so I can have a full weekend of relaxation. Family or friends are great resources to help you forget about real life because you can engage in activities that don’t involve homework. My family is big into watching movies and going on adventures outside. Since they just recently moved here, they are still finding fun places to go and enjoy showing me the new things they have found.
With all the work that is coming ahead in my graduate program, it is very beneficial to have time where you can catch up on life and talk about the exciting things that happened during the week. You should have friends that you can vent to, but it is also very important to have friends or family members who you speak to about the fun parts of life and what you look forward to. I have already talked to my mother about where I want to eventually work, and the plans that must be made before I can do that which is a very exciting matter 🙂 This weekend will be a much needed time of rest. Try to mark similar time in you calendars, so you make sure to take a breather when you can!
